For high school, the Baton Rouge area's private options are concentrated in a few large campuses and a longer list of small K-12 Christian schools. Here is every state-approved school in our directory that runs through grade 12 and reported at least 40 K-12 students, with how LA GATOR fits the high school years.
K-12 enrollment covers all grades the school serves, not only 9-12. Source: LDOE 2025-26 BESE-approved list; TDC 2024-25 list; NCES Private School Survey for single-sex status.
Single-sex schools
St. Joseph's Academy (all-girls), Catholic High School (all-boys). Catholic High starts at grade 8.
How LA GATOR fits high school
- Dual enrollment. The account can pay for college courses already approved for Louisiana's Course Choice program. Ask your school which courses qualify before you register.
- Testing. ACT, SAT, PSAT and Pre-ACT fees are approved expenses. AP exams are capped at $100.
- Career and technical courses. Tuition and exam fees for career and technical programs are covered.
- Tutoring and test prep are approved categories, and test-prep books count as materials.
TOPS
The Louisiana Department of Education notes that graduates of state-approved nonpublic schools are eligible for TOPS, the state's college scholarship. TOPS has its own core-course and score requirements, so check them with the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance early in ninth grade.
Moving up from a K-8 school
Most parish schools in Baton Rouge stop at grade 8. LA GATOR follows the student, so the award moves with your child to an approved high school. Former Louisiana Scholarship Program students are the exception: their protected 2024-25 amount ends when they finish their current school's last grade.
